GLOUCESTER, ON — Two-year-old trotting filly Lakeside Bride made her first Ontario Sires Stakes victory a lucrative one, capturing the $130,000 Gold Final at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening.

With reigning Gold Final champion Tymal Timeout scratched due to sickness, her stablemate Windsong Darling tried to carry the day for the Henry Stable, reeling off fractions of :29.2, 1:00.3 and 1:30.3. Unfortunately Lakeside Bride landed the perfect trip in behind the pacesetter and was able to outsprint her down the stretch to earn the 2:00.2 victory.

Windsong Darling was one and a half lengths back in second and elimination winner Corporate Girl finished four and three-quarter lengths back in third.

Dustin Jones trains and drives Lakeside Bride, who finished second by a neck to Corporate Girl in her Gold Series debut last weekend. After a July 1 qualifier at Hippodrome de Montreal that saw the filly post a 2:03.3 victory, Jones opted to skip the Windsor Gold event in mid-July and sent Lakeside Bride out in a pair of overnights at the Montreal oval. On July 7 the filly was a 2:02 winner and on July 21 she finished third by two and one-quarter lengths in a 1:58.3 mile.

Breeder Al Libfeld owns the daughter of Duke Of York and Conch, who earned $485,889 in her own right and then produced King Conch, who earned $676,285 as a racehorse and then took his place among the leading trotting sires in Ontario up until his death in 2004. Through four starts Lakeside Bride boasts a record of two wins, one second and one third for earnings of $79,488.

Rideau Carleton fans wisely sent Lakeside Bride off as their top choice and the filly returned $5.10 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.40 to show. Windsong Darling went off as the fifth choice and returned $5.90 to place and $3.30 to show and second choice Corporate Girl delivered $2.90 to show. The exactor was worth $53.00 and the triactor paid $129.20.

Lakeside Bride will have an opportunity to defend her title when the two-year-old trotting fillies make their way to Mohawk Racetrack on Aug. 20 for their fourth Gold Series event of the season.

Ontario Sires Stakes action returns to Rideau Carleton Raceway on Friday, Aug. 18 with a Grassroots event for the two-year-old trotting colts.
