CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Lisa’s Mission made amends for a miscue in last week’s elimination round with a flawless effort at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday night to claim the first Gold Final of the season for two-year-old trotting fillies.

Campbellville resident Mike Saftic and Lisa’s Mission employed the same strategy they did in the elimination, firing out of Post 3 and rolling through fractions of :28.4, 1:01.1 and 1:29, but this time the Mr Lavec daughter maintained her focus and trotted under the wire one and a half lengths on top in a smart 1:58.

Elimination winners Patsy’s Point, who was sent off as the fan favourite after her 1:58.4 mile last week, and Oaklea Omega rounded out the top three in the $130,000 Gold Final.

Lisa’s Mission earned her way into the Final off a third-place finish behind Oaklea Omega last Tuesday. After leading throughout the elimination by as much as six lengths, the filly went off stride as she turned for home and then struggled to put things back together all the way down the stretch.

As a result of last week’s late bobble, Mohawk fans were wary of Lisa’s Mission and sent her off as their sixth choice. The filly returned $29.10 on a win wager, $13.10 for a place ticket and $7.20 on each show voucher. Favourite Patsy’s Point returned $3.90 to place and $3.20 to show, while seventh choice Oaklea Omega paid $5.40 to show.

The Lisa’s Mission – Patsy’s Point exactor was worth $132.10, and combining the top three finishers for a triactor play earned fans $776.30.

Midhurst resident Adrian Hickey trains Lisa’s Mission for Lisa Morgan, also of Midhurst. A $28,000 acquisition at last fall’s Canadian Classic Yearling Sale, Lisa’s Mission is a full sister to former Ontario Sires Stakes star Corina’s Mission, who earned $543,891 in her career, and a half sister to $272,760 winner Chelemark Bert and $203,925 winner Chelemark Ginger.

Hickey prepped the filly for her Gold Series debut with a 2:02.1 qualifier at Mohawk on June 11 and Mohawk fans sent her off as their top pick in her elimination last week.

Lisa’s Mission will have an opportunity to defend her status as the two-year-old trotting filly division queen on July 28 at Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa.

Next up on Mohawk Racetrack’s Ontario Sires Stakes schedule are Gold Series Eliminations for the electric two-year-old pacing colts tomorrow evening (Tuesday, July 12) at 7:20 pm.
