DRESDEN, ON — Fiesty Baran could not have picked a better time to capture his first career victory than Sunday’s Grassroots event at Dresden Raceway.

Pacing to a half length win in 1:59.3, Fiesty Baran launched himself up 23 spots in the two-year-old pacing colt division standings to secure the second last berth in the Sept. 30 Grassroots Semifinals at Flamboro Downs.

Norman Bayne of Rodney trains Fiesty Baran for his partner Bruce McKenty of Waterloo. A son of Rambaran out of Bayne and McKenty’s former racemare Luxury Angus, Fiesty Baran posted a record of one win, two thirds and a fourth in five Grassroots starts this season to earn a total of 82 points, just three points above the cut off for post season play.

Jamieson was also in the race bike behind Village Victory, who jumped from seventeenth in the point standings to sixth with a wire to wire triumph. The Village Jiffy son cruised around the Dresden half-mile in 2:01.2 to score the one and three-quarter length victory over In The Irons and EHI Guaglione.

Trained by Michael Keeling for P C Wellwood Enterprises Inc. of Cambridge, breeder Charles Armstrong of Brampton and Robert Fasken of Oakville, Village Victory made three starts at the Grassroots level, amassing 112 points through two wins and one third.

Along Came Polly locked up his second Grassroots victory with the fastest mile of the seven Grassroots divisions. The Camluck colt and driver Jason Brewer made short work of a talented fifth race field, sprinting to the front from Post 2 and carving out fractions of :29.1, 1:00.1 and 1:29.2 on their way to the 1:57.3 triumph over Deuces And Jacks and Grin And Tonic.

Harrow resident Larry Pollard bred and owns Along Came Polly, who is flawless through three starts this season. The Rodney Duford trainee made his racing debut on Aug. 19 at Hiawatha Horse Park with a 1:55.2 mile, and then posted his first Grassroots victory on Aug. 31 at Flamboro Downs.

Division leader Blatantly Good heads into the post season on a high note, posting a 1:58.1 victory on Sunday. The Albert Albert son and driver Trevor Henry cruised along on the front end to a three-quarter length victory over Windsun Ben and Flights Motion.

Glenview Livestock Ltd. of Wallenstein owns Blatantly Good, who earned a total of 180 points through three wins, one second and one fifth in five Grassroots starts. Paul Taylor trains the talented youngster, who is a half-brother to $204,015 winner Dexter’s Lifeline.

The other Grassroots divisions went to Themachmanprophecy in 1:59.1, Cuban Seelster in 1:59 and Scoundrel in 1:59.2.

The top 16 point earners will now polish their skills in preparation for a pair of $30,000 Grassroots Semifinals at Flamboro Downs on Sept. 30. The top four finishers from each Semifinal will then return to Flamboro for their $100,000 Grassroots Championship on Oct. 7.

The Ontario Sires Stakes program will return to Dresden Raceway next spring with an eager crop of trotters and pacers eager to make their mark on the Grassroots stage.
