DUNDAS, ON — Longshot Loose Change Louie took full advantage of Post 1 at Flamboro Downs on Sunday evening to score his first Gold Series Elimination win.
In rein to trainer Brent Belore, Loose Change Louie led the field of three-year-old trotting colts through fractions of :28.3, :57.2 and 1:27.4 on his way to the quarter length 1:58.1 victory.
Outsiders Its A Fact Jack and Trudel, owned by Lowell Brown, Gerald Walsh and Howard Staats of Brantford, delivered steady efforts to land the second and third-place shares of the $51,084 Ontario Sires Stakes purse, while heavy favourite In Conchnito made a break heading to the half that knocked him out of contention.
Embro resident Belore trains Loose Change Louie for his partners Michael Robblee of Woodstock, Ronald Thomson of Embro and George Cuthbert of Ingersoll. The San Pellegrino son has been a regular player in the Gold Series all season, but Sunday night’s victory jumps him into the top 10 point earners, with seven of 10 Gold Series events complete, and pushes his season earnings to $81,313.
Flamboro fans who opted to support Loose Change Louie earned $41.80, $13.60 and $8.10 for their $2 win, place or show wagers. Its A Fact Jack returned $12.90 to place and $7.00 to show and Trudel’s third-place effort was worth $6.50. The exactor returned a healthy $521.00 and those who divined the 1 – 9 – 4 triactor sequence pocketed $4,941.60.
Reigning Gold Final champion Samuel Oaks returned to his winning form in the second elimination, reeling off a wire-to-wire 1:58.4 victory from Post 5. Trainer-driver Paul Walker of Owen Sound and Carscot Stables of Toronto share ownership on the Angus Hall son, who sports a record of five wins, one second and one third through nine starts for earnings of $133,665.
Fan Favourite Cincinnati Kid recovered from an early break to circle the field and land in second spot, while Angus Scot delivered a steady effort to earn third-place honours. Both colts are also sons of Angus Hall, who stands at Campbellville’s Glengate Farms.
Fourth-place finishers B Cor Kenny and Savannah Sirius also advanced to the $130,000 Gold Final, which is part of the exciting Confederation Cup program next Sunday, Aug. 22.
