FRASERVILLE, ON — Reigning Gold Final champion Lucks Mistress delivered her second straight 1:55.2 mile when she captured her Gold Series Elimination at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday evening.

The Camluck daughter and driver Jody Jamieson led through all stations in the fourth race, laying down fractions of :28.3, :57.2 and 1:25.4 on their way to the four and three-quarter length victory over She’s Almost Famous and Lady Dillinger.

A full-sister to $779,728 winner Camystic, who was the leading freshman pacer in the 2001 Ontario Sires Stakes season, Lucks Mistress was a $110,000 purchase at last fall’s Canadian Classic Yearling Sale. Trained by Carl Jamieson for his partners in the Lucks Mistress Stable of Princeton, the talented filly has already returned $93,864 of their investment through just three starts. She finished second in the season opening Gold Elimination and then captured the July 8 Final at Woodbine Racetrack, before her victory at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday.

Jody and Carl Jamieson also teamed up for a victory in the first elimination with the gutsy Ingrid Bergrin. From Post 5 Jody Jamieson hustled the Grinfromeartoear daughter off the wings and led the field of eight to a :29 opening quarter. Opting to let Seafood Athena and Doug Brown take control before the :58.1 half, Ingrid Bergrin moved to the outside before the 1:27.1 three-quarters and then gouged away at Seafood Athena until the wire, scoring a nose victory in a personal best 1:56.4.

The win was the filly’s third through four starts. She captured a Trillium Series division at Georgian Downs on June 22 and won her Gold Elimination at Woodbine on July 1 before finishing third in the $130,000 Final. Princeton resident Carl Jamieson trains the winner of $72,721 for his partners Jerry Jamieson of Blenheim, Thomas Kyron of Etobicoke and breeder Dr. Robert Boyce of London.

Seafood Athena was a tough second and Hummnahummnahummna landed in next Tuesday’s Gold Final when Lucky Angel was moved from third to fourth for causing interference after the three-quarters.

The sixth race went to Babyremembermyname, also a two-time Gold Elimination winner, in a relatively sedate 1:58.4. The Apaches Fame daughter received a classic front end steer from driver Phil Hudon. Taking control just past the :29.1 opening quarter, the young reinsman proceeded to measure off evenly rated fractions of :59.3 and 1:30 before asking the filly to sprint home to the three length victory over Spocks Princess and Artscase.

Edward James of Aurora owns Babyremembermyname and entrusts her day-to-day care to trainer Rod Hennessy.

The top three finishers from each elimination will return to Kawartha Downs next Tuesday, July 27 for their second crack at a $130,000 Gold Final purse.
