ELORA, ON — Grand River Raceway will host a special card of racing on Thanksgiving (Oct. 10) for Ontario-sired horses.
Made In Ontario night will feature 12 dashes for Grassroots starters that did not draw into the semi-finals of the Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS). The winner of each $15,000 dash will be awarded a trophy cooler compliments of the Ontario Harness Horse Association. The winning connections will receive winners’ circle gifts from Grand River Raceway and Trot Apparel.
The Thanksgiving card will also wrap up Grand River Raceway’s annual food drive. The track has partnered with Wellington Trailer Sales to challenge track patrons and horsepeople to fill a horse trailer to the brim with non-perishable food items in support of the local food bank. All donations will be added to the efforts of the Elora branch of the Bank of Montreal’s Food Drive.
Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the Grand River Raceway Gift Shop from October 3 through October 7. Donors will be entered to win dinner for six in the Captain’s Quarters Dining Room at Grand River Raceway or an Extreme Harness Kit, compliments of Wilson Tack. The prize draw will be conducted after race six on Thanksgiving. Post time is 7:30.
