REXDALE, ON — Fresh off a runner-up performance in the Valley Victory Final, two-year-old trotting colt Majestic Son delivered the fastest win in a pair of Gold Eliminations at Woodbine Racetrack on Friday evening.

The Angus Hall son and driver Rick Zeron sat near the back of the pack through the initial stages of the race, watching pacesetter Quantum The King roll through fractions of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:29.2. After moving up the outside, Majestic Son was only one and a three-quarter lengths back at the top of the stretch and he cruised under the wire one and one-quarter lengths to the good in 1:58.4.

Favourite Dr Robert Johns, owned by trainer Anders Wolden and Kathrine Moi of Moffat, settled for second, while Mr Ontario claimed a third-place cheque in his first start since July 22 for David and Larry Menary of Caledon and John and Todd Gimblett of Whitby. Mr Lemon and Quantum The King also advanced to next week’s Gold Final from the second $50,683 elimination.

The win was Majestic Son’s third in Gold Series action this season — the talented young trotter captured a Gold Elimination and Final at Grand River Raceway in late July — and easily maintained his position atop the division standings with a total of 205 points.

Mark Steacy trains the winner of $345,386 for David Reid of Glenburnie, David McDonald of Cornwall, A K Malik Stable of Ottawa and Dr. Malcolm Man Son Hing of Nepean.

The other Gold Elimination featured a major upset as heavy favourite Was It A Dream made an early break and just squeaked into next Friday’s $130,000 Gold Final with a fifth-place finish.

The victory went to Campbell Hall, who took command of the race just past the quarter and led the freshman trotters through all stations before holding off Ebony Strike in the stretch to secure the half length win in 1:59.2. Brylin Lavec, owned by Brylin Stable Inc. of Erin finished third, while top ranked colts B Cor Rennegade and Was It A Dream rounded out the top five.

Bob McIntosh trains Campbell Hall, who went into the elimination off his first victory, a 2:03.4 score in Flamboro Breeders action on Oct. 22. The LaSalle resident shares ownership on the Striking Sahbra son, a $125,000 US yearling, with CSX Stables of Liberty Center, OH and Michael Kohler of Sterling Heights, MI.

The half-brother to trotting superstar Cantab Hall, a winner of $1.5 million, has been a consistent player on the Gold Series scene this season and Friday’s victory boosted him into second-place in the division standings with 147 points.

Campbell Hall will start from Post 4 in next Friday’s $130,00 Gold Final, while Majestic Son will be handicapped by the outside Post 10. Complete post positions for the Nov. 4 Gold Final at Woodbine Racetrack are as follows:
