WINDSOR, ON — Brothers Doug and Bob McIntosh each carried home an Ontario Sires Stakes trophy from Windsor Raceway on Sunday night when three-year-old pacing fillies Angel In Disguise and Lady Graceful captured their respective Gold Series Eliminations.

Older brother Doug made the first appearance in Windsor’s winner’s circle when Angel In Disguise sprinted up the stretch to capture a narrow victory over Nicki Newton and Unique X Ample in Race 6. With veteran reinsman Trevor Ritchie in the race bike the Camluck filly got a picture perfect trip around Windsor’s five-eighths of a mile oval, sitting third as pacesetter Armbro Wallflower took the field through fractions of :28, :57.2 and 1:27.2 and then outpacing her peers to score the 1:56.2 win.

In spite of a one and a half length lead at the top of the stretch Armbro Wallflower was unable to hold off the fillies charging from behind and had to settle for fourth spot, however she will advance along with the top three finishers to next Sunday’s $130,000 Gold Final. Fifth-place finisher Hornby Heart could advance to the Final through luck of the draw. One fifth-place finisher’s name will drawn and added to the field during the post position draw on Thursday.

Wheatley’s Doug McIntosh trains Angel In Disguise for his partner Michael Dockendorf of Chicago, IL. The win marked the end of a tremendous weekend in Ontario Sires Stakes action for Doug McIntosh, whose sophomore trotting colts Semper Fi Hall and Ryan Hall swept their Gold Eliminations at London’s Western Fair Raceway on Saturday night.

Three races later it was Bob McIntosh who appeared in front of Windsor’s track photographer when Lady Graceful edged out her stablemate Miss Frizzle in a 1:55.1 mile. The Camluck filly and leading North American driver Chris Christoforou tucked in behind Miss Frizzle in the early going and watched patiently as she reeled off :27.1, :56.2 and 1:26.2 fractions.

Heading up the stretch Christoforou dropped Lady Graceful into a higher gear and simply pulled away to the one and a half length win. Go Alberta Go and Campressious rounded out the qualifiers for the May 19 Gold Final while Dexters Destiny will await the results of the draw to see whether see will compete for the $130,000.

Windsor resident Bob McIntosh trains Lady Graceful for Robert Waxman of Ancaster and shares ownership of Miss Frizzle with Larry Pollard of Harrow and Dwight Stacey of Mitchell.

The top five finishers in each Elimination also began to accumulate points toward a berth in the season ending Super Final, worth a cool $300,000 this season. Angel In Disguise and Lady Graceful each earned 50 points while the second-place finishers picked up 25, the third-place finishers earned 12, the fourth-place finishers eight and the fifth-place finishers five points.

The nine Gold Final qualifiers will battle for more Super Final points and a piece of the $130,000 purse next Sunday at Windsor.
