INNISFIL, ON — Georgian Downs fans will be treated to another outstanding performance by the two-year-old pacing fillies on Tuesday evening as the top nine finishers from last week’s elimination round compete in the $130,000 Gold Final.
Trainer Bob McIntosh qualified two fillies for the lucrative Final and the talented duo will start from Posts 3 and 4 in the eighth race.
“We got a good draw, we have good drivers, and we seem to be coming into it well, so we’ll see what happens,” says Al McIntosh, who shares ownership on both Los Angeles and Shes Camazing.
Los Angeles heads into Tuesday night’s contest off a 1:57.4 victory in her elimination that saw her finish four and a half lengths ahead of the competition over a sloppy track rated two seconds slower than normal. The Camluck daughter, a $115,000 purchase at last fall’s Kentucky Standardbred Yearling Sale, will make her bid for a second win from Post 3 and get the services of last year’s top Ontario Sires Stakes reinsman Don McElroy.
“She looked very strong at the wire last week,” says the Leamington resident, who shares ownership on the filly with trainer Bob McIntosh of La Salle and CSX Stables of Liberty Center, OH. “She’s shown quite a bit all the way through, ever since we started her. She was easy to gait and has been very professional.”
Stablemate Shes Camazing finished third in her division behind 1:58.1 winner Warrawee Flare and Lucys Fame. Another daughter of Camluck, Shes Camazing is a product of the McIntosh breeding program. The McIntosh cousins and Dwight Stacey of Mitchell acquired her mother Armbro Remarkable as a yearling and Shes Camazing is the mare’s second foal, and the first one to make the races.
“Shes Camazing is a little racier and has a little better attitude than the first filly,” says Al McIntosh. “She’s gritty, she tries pretty hard and she seems to be improving with each start. I don’t think she’s quite as good as Los Angeles now, but maybe in a month or two.”
Shes Camazing and driver Steve Condren will make their bid at a top spot from Post 4 on Tuesday evening.
Trainers Carl Jamieson and Bill Robinson also qualified two fillies for the $130,000 Final. Jamieson trainee Taylor Lynne, who scored the fastest win of the three eliminations with a 1:56.3 score, will attempt a second straight victory from Post 2 while Lucys Fame gets Post 8. Robinson will harness reigning Gold Final winner Double Creme from Post 9 and runner-up to Los Angeles, Cohenikova, from Post 7.
Georgian Downs opens its Tuesday evening program at 7:30 pm and spotlights the talented two-year-old pacing fillies in Race 8.
