WINDSOR, ON — Bob McIntosh sent four starters to the post in Wednesday’s three-year-old trotting filly Grassroots event at Windsor Raceway and hauled two winners and a runner-up back to his LaSalle facility at the end of the evening.

Hologram Hanover kicked off the successful evening for the veteran horseman, touring the Windsor oval in a smart 1:58.3 to record her first win of the season. The Berndt Hanover daughter and driver Jack Moiseyev eased off the starting gate from Post 5 and then fired up the outside heading toward the halfway marker. On top by one and a half lengths at the three-quarter pole, Hologram Hanover drew off to a four and a half length victory over Praha and Xtreme Youth.

McIntosh shares ownership on Hologram Hanover with CSX Stables of Liberty Center, OH and Michael Kohler of Sterling Heights, MI. The filly leapt up the Grassroots point standings with the win, which gives her a record of one win, one second and one fifth in three Grassroots outings for a total of 80 points.

McIntosh and Moiseyev were back in the winner’s circle after the sixth race, when Heartful Image came up with an impressive effort to score her second straight victory. In a move reminiscent of her stablemate’s, Heartful Image fired up on the outside heading past the half, had reached the front by the three-quarters and sprinted home to four length win in 1:58.4. Playfull Image and Chuckalo Beckster earned the second and third-place shares of the $15,000 Grassroots purse.

The win boosted Heartful Image’s season record to four wins and one third in 11 starts, with most of them coming against the tough Gold Series fillies. Irving Liverman of Hampstead, QC joins McIntosh and CSX Stables in ownership of Heartful Image, who boosted her lifetime earnings to $75,231.

One race later McIntosh and Moiseyev settled for second when Tyrone Megabucks finished one and three-quarter lengths behind Dream On Bernie, who cruised to a front end victory in 1:59.4 for Janet Fairall of Windsor, trainer George Zirnis and Tanya Martin of Elmira and Nancy Holmes of Clinton. Taylorlane Bliss rounded out the top three.

Dream On Bernie now has three wins and four fifths to her credit through 12 starts this season, for earnings of $44,829. The Berndt Hanover daughter has also been toiling against the top tier fillies since starting her season off with a victory at the Grassroots level in May. The pair of Grassroots wins gives the filly a total of 100 points, well above the current cut off for a berth in the Grassroots Semifinal with two events remaining on the regular season schedule.

The only McIntosh starter that failed to earn a Grassroots cheque was Bernies Babe, who made a costly break turning for home in the ninth race that knocked her from third to last. Queen Of Scot claimed the victor’s spoils with an effortless 1:59 performance, while Travelswithcharlie finished three and a half lengths back in second and Keystone Apex was four lengths back in third.

Dave Boughton piloted the King Conch daughter to the win, her first ever, for trainer Ron O’Neill and owners Debi Martin of Freelton, Daniel Harper of Toronto and Paul Larrabee of Freelton.

The other Grassroots divisions went to K T Cha Cha in 2:01.2, Cheque Lavec in 2:00 and Pretty In Plaid in 2:00.3. The talented three-year-old trotting fillies compete in their second last regular season event on Sept. 3 at Hanover Raceway.

Ontario Sires Stakes excitement returns to Windsor Raceway Sunday evening when the lightning fast three-year-old pacing colts arrive at the border oval to compete in their fourth Gold Series event.
