HANOVER, ON — Missys Fame roared around Hanover Raceway on Saturday night to post the fastest win in three Trillium Series divisions and equal the three-year-old pacing filly speed record established by Ghost Of Sweepall in 1998.
The Apaches Fame daughter and veteran reinsman Ross Battin fired out of Post 1 and never faced a challenge as they reeled off fractions of :28.1, :58.1 and 1:27.4 en route to the 1:56.3 victory. The win was Missys Fame’s first this season through eight starts and took more than one second off the personal best effort she delivered as a two-year-old.
John Bosworth of Newmarket owns and trains Missys Fame, who was four and a half lengths ahead of favourite O See My Bo and Streetwise Hanover at the wire.
In the second Trillium division, Espirit Seelster kept her win streak alive with a gate-to-wire victory in 1:57. The Camluck daughter and driver Mike Sumner posted fractions of :28.1, :59 and 1:28.2 en route to the win and fought off a challenge from The Matrix in the final strides to score the narrow victory. Local favourite Wendys Rocket, owned by Bloomingwood Farms of Harriston, rounded out the top three.
Ray Bunn trains Espirit Seelster for McCarthy Family Farms Ltd. of Granton, who acquired the filly at last fall’s Extravaganza Sale for just $17,500. Since then the talented pacer has earned $34,328 in just five starts, including two Trillium Series victories and one win and one second in Grassroots action.
The final Trillium contest went to Hot Shot Rocket, who has also put together an impressive resume in provincial action this season. The Pacific Rocket daughter and driver Michael Langdon also used front end tactics to add a 1:59.2 Trillium win to a pair of Grassroots victories and a third-place finish in the June Trillium event. Peter Heffering of Port Perry owns Hot Shot Rocket and Duane Marfisi trains the winner of $62,719.
Im Half Nukes and Putnam Kelly picked up the second and third-place shares of the $22,398 Trillium purse.
The three-year-old pacing fillies make their final Trillium Series stop on Oct. 12 at Windsor Raceway, but they will see plenty of Ontario Sires Stakes action before then. The third Grassroots event goes postward on Aug. 2 at Sarnia’s Hiawatha Horse Park, while the Gold Series fillies return to Woodbine Racetrack on Aug. 1.
Ontario Sires Stakes excitement is back at Hanover Raceway next Saturday, July 12 when the two-year-old pacing colts will impress fans with their raw speed in Grassroots action.
