The connections of last year’s Horse of the Year in both Canada and the US, Bee A Magician, are hoping magic will strike again with another trotter by Ontario stallion Kadabra, Scary Magic.

The three-year-old gelding is trained by Richard Nifty’ Norman and owned by breeders Mel Hartman of Ottawa, Ontario and Dave McDuffee of Florida, the team behind $2.3 million winner Bee A Magician.

He’s drawn post five in the first of four $52,500 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold divisions for three-year-old trotting colts Friday night at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

The four OSS Gold divisions are part of the undercard of Molson Pace night, The Raceway’s signature event which features the sixth appearance of harness racing’s richest performer of all time, the fan favourite Foiled Again.

Paul MacDonell will be at the lines behind Scary Magic tomorrow night. MacDonell drove him for the first time in his most recent start, an overnight at Mohawk on May 22 which he won in a life best 1:58.3. Scary Magic is the second foal of the Andover Hall daughter Give Me A V, a daughter of $508,000 winner Victory My Way.

Muscle Matters, the leading colt in this group last year, has not returned to the races as yet in 2014, but the second highest money winner in this division, Massive Muscles, will make his debut in the second division for trainer Julie Walker who co-owns with driver Jean Renaud.

A gelding by Muscle Mass, Massive Muscles had two wins and three seconds in six tries last year for $106,250 in earnings. He comes into Friday’s contest with two victories in qualifying races at Mohawk.

The four Ontario Sires Stakes Gold events are slated as races one, two, five and six on the evening. The Molson Pace goes as the 12th and final.
