Several successful Ontario Sires Stakes graduates will go postward in Thursday’s rich Matron Series Finals at Dover Downs. Two sophomore trotting fillies by Angus Hall will contest the $160,950 final for that division.
Sweetie Hearts has drawn post four and will have leading driver Tim Tetrick at the lines for the first time. Owned and bred by Bob Key of Pennsylvania the filly earned $174,000 in the OSS program this year. One of her OSS rivals this year, White Becomes Her, has post seven with David Miller slated to drive for trainer Ben Baillargeon and owner Twilight Stables of Brampton, Ontario. White Becomes Her took in $169,000 in the OSS program this year for a total of $273,000 on the season.
Their male companion event, for three-year-old colt pacers, sees the OSS leader in this division, Harper Blue Chip, starting from post three. Tetrick is listed to steer the winner of $606,000 to date this year for trainer Mark Steacy and owners Landmark 6 Stable, David McDonald, David Reid and George Judson, all of Ontario. This is Harper Blue Chip’s first start since winning the OSS Super Final in mid October.
OSS stars can also be found in the sophomore pacing finals. Jet Airway, who enjoyed an almost flawless OSS season in 2014, has post five in race 11, the $186,550 final for the glamour boys. Marcus Miller will drive the son of Jeremes Jet for his dad, trainer Erv Miller, who co-owns the winner of $316,000 this year with Tangie Massey, Paul Sunderhaus and Larry Agle.
The final Matron, race 12 for three-year-old pacing fillies, finds OSS leader Skippin By in post eight with Brian Sears at the lines. A daughter of Shadow Play, Skippin By had four wins in six OSS tries this year, including her Super Final, to give her $318,000 earned. Corey Johnson trains for the Wall Bros. Stableand Bruce Soulsby of Ohio.
Post time for the Dover card on Thursday is 4:30 p.m.
