Outtathisworld Deo set a national season’s best 1:52 mile while posting an 18-1 upset on Sunday (Aug. 24) at Rideau Carleton Raceway in the lone $140,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Leg 4 event for 3-year-old pacing fillies.

The career-best victory came at the expense of 2024 Canadian Horse of the Year Chantilly, who was sent off as the overwhelming 3-5 favourite out of the outside post 8, was on top early and controlled much of the race before fading badly in the stretch to go down to defeat for the third straight start.

Parked the entire mile and sitting in the middle of the eight-horse field, driver Tyler Borth sent Outtathisworld Deo three-wide in the final turn and won a three-horse, deep-stretch battle to the wire.

Perfectly Chic (Bob McClure) was a half-length back in second, followed by Wicked N Single (Louis-Philippe Roy), Eternal Delight (Trevor Henry) and Millie May Hanover (Jonathan Drury). Chantilly, driven by her regular pilot James MacDonald was sixth.

“That was obviously unexpected,” Borth told Rideau Carleton’s Glenn Pearson in the winner’s circle. “She had been racing really well, and I thought she would be decent, but I thought there were some fillies in there that we couldn’t beat. A couple of them didn’t race up to their best, and we capitalized on it.

“When I saw Chantilly start to stop – she was actually running out a little bit in the turn – I moved [Outtathisworld Deo] a little sooner than I wanted to, but she kicked home strong and was good.”

Outtathisworld Deo paid $18.25.

It was the first career Gold victory for Outtathisworld Deo, a homebred daughter of Bettors Delight that is the final foal out of $2 million-winner Worldly Beauty. Outtathisworld Deo is owned by her breeder Deo Volente Farms of New Jersey and is trained by Chantal Mitchell.

The win improved Outtathisworld Deo to 2-1-0 in 14 starts this year and 5-2-1 in 23 lifetime outings. The filly now has seasonal earnings of $108,180 and lifetime winnings of $153,870.

“She’s a sweetheart,” Mitchell said. “She does everything right. She’s got a good character and she’s just fun to have around.

“She’s the last foal out of the great Worldly Beauty, so the owners, the breeders, they retained her to breed her afterwards, and she’s been tough. She tries hard, she’s just not always had the best of luck. Things haven’t always gone her way, but I was just hoping one day she might get there in one of these races, and here we are.”

Outtathisworld Deo is the third different Gold winner this year in the division. Chantilly won the Golds on May 24 and July 21, but scratched out of the Gold on June 21 won by Perfectly Chic. Lifetime, Chantilly is a six-time Gold winner, including the 2024 OSS Super Final.
