GLOUCESTER, ON — Pizzazzed lived up to his name at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Friday night, delivering a four length victory in the two-year-old trotting colt Gold Final at the Ottawa oval.

Starting from Post 2 in the nine colt field, trainer-driver Roger Hammer settled Pizzazzed in second as Miguel Duhamel sprinted off the wings to a :29.3 opening quarter. The field marched along in single file behind Miguel Duhamel en route to a :59.3 half, and then Hammer sent Pizzazzed up the outside.

When Miguel Duhamel reached the 1:29 three-quarters, Pizzazzed was sweeping to the front and by the time he turned for home the fan favourite had established a four and a half length lead. Cruising down the stretch Pizzazzed stopped the Rideau Carleton teletimer in a personal best 1:58.1. Mark Steacy trainee McCarron, owned by Dr. Malcolm Man Son Hing of Nepean, A K Malik Stable of Ottawa, David McDonald of Cornwall and David Reid of Glenburnie, finished four lengths back in second, and O U Gus was another length to the rear in third.

The win was Pizzazzed’s fifth in seven starts this season, and his second straight. The son of Kadabra and Armbro Adored captured his elimination last week with a front end performance in 2:01. On the two occasions when he did not grace the winner’s circle, the consistent young trotter logged second-place finishes.

Roger Hammer trains Pizzazzed for Fox Valley Standardbreds of Sherman, IL. The Bedford, PA resident started Pizzazzed at Pocono Downs in Pennsylvania on July 8 where the colt finished second in a division of the W. N. Reynolds Memorial. After capturing an overnight at Rosecroft Raceway in Maryland, Pizzazzed won a July 21 division of the Tompkins-Geers at Tioga Downs in New York.

Following the Tompkins-Geers win Pizzazzed shipped into Ontario for the Aug. 2 Gold Elimination at Mohawk Racetrack, posting a 1:58.3 victory. Second in the final to B Strike Three, Pizzazzed returned to Gold Series action with last week’s elimination win. In his seven starts Pizzazzed has already earned $159,556 and currently sits atop the two-year-old trotting colt division standings with a total of 175 points.

Pizzazzed and his peers return to Mohawk Racetrack on Sept. 23 for their fourth Gold Series event. Next up on Rideau Carleton Raceway’s Ontario Sires Stakes menu is a Grassroots event for the talented three-year-old pacing colts on Thursday, Sept. 13.
