CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Freshman trotting fillies stepped to centre stage at Mohawk Racetrack on Friday, July 5 to compete in five $42,000 Gold Series divisions.

Profound Wisdom set the early season standard with a 1:57.3 mile for driver Kevin Sizer, trainer Rebecca Titus and owner-breeder Steven Titus of Hamburg, NY. The Ken Warkentin daughter led the sixth race field for the bulk of the mile and cruised across the wire one and three-quarter lengths ahead of her peers.

A pair of Deweycheatumnhowe daughters was also impressive in their debut Friday. In spite of starting from Post 9 in the second race, Marcella Hall and trainer-driver Jimmy Takter went straight to the front and held off the field down the stretch to record a one-half length victory in 1:58.1. Takter handles the full sister to stakes winner Ma Chere Hall ($183,814) for R A W Equine of Burlington, John and Jim Fielding of Toronto and Christina Takter of East Windsor, NJ. The group purchased Marcella Hall for $30,000 at last fall’s Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.

In the final division Deweycheatumnhowe daughter Danica Hall and Acton resident Trevor Ritchie decided not to buck the trend and did all their work on the front end en route to a one and three-quarter length score in 1:58.1. Ritchie piloted the filly to the win for trainer Doug McIntosh and owner-breeder Walnut Hall Limited of Lexington, KY.

Moffat resident Jack Moiseyev piloted Miss Liv to a 1:59 win in the first race and Guelph resident Anthony MacDonald captured the remaining Gold Series division with Striking Serenade, who stopped the clock at 1:59.3.

The two-year-old trotting fillies make their second Gold Series start at Georgian Downs on July 23. Ontario Sires Stakes excitement continues at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday, July 8 with the second Gold Series contest for the two-year-old pacing colts.
