INNISFIL, ON — Pure Ivory posted her name in the record books of a second racetrack on Tuesday when she reeled off a 1:57.2 victory in Trillium Series action at Georgian Downs.
The three-year-old trotting filly and driver Steve Condren took control of the first $22,037 Trillium division just past the :28.4 opening quarter and coasted through fractions of :58.2 and 1:29 before sprinting home to the victory, which peeled three-fifths of a second off the 1:58 record set by CH Meadow Miss in May. In her last start Pure Ivory set a track and Ontario Sires Stakes record 1:57.2 mark over Western Fair Raceway’s half-mile oval to capture her first Gold Final title of the season.
Vijay Star managed to keep up with Pure Ivory and finished one and three-quarter lengths back in second, while Highly Organized crossed under the wire 11 lengths back in third.
Brad Maxwell trains Pure Ivory for Jerry Vanboekel of Bright, breeder Harry Rutherford of Mount Pleasant, driver Steve Condren of Milton and Christina Maxwell of Cambridge. The win was the Angus Hall daughter’s fourth straight and should serve as an excellent warm up for the Canadian Breeders Championship Eliminations at Mohawk Racetrack on July 21.
As expected, the Gold Series heavy weights dominated the three Trillium Series divisions. John Bax trainees Oaklea Odessa and Oaklea Omega were both effortless winners in times just fractionally slower than their rival.
First out of the barn for Bax was Oaklea Odessa, who was looking to bounce back from a pair of tough outings that had snapped a five race win streak. With “Mr. OSS” Dave Wall in the race bike, the filly accomplished her goal, cruising around the Innisfil oval to a 1:57.4 score. Emmamazing finished three-quarters of a length back in second and Taylorlane Crush was two more back in third.
Bax trains Oaklea Odessa for his partners Ariel Stable of North York and Glenn Van Camp of Port Perry. The Balanced Image lass is now six for nine in her three-year-old campaign with earnings of $164,522.
Two races later the Peterborough resident was back in the winner’s circle with the second half of his Gold Series team. Oaklea Omega controlled all the fractions in her 1:57.3 victory, hitting the wire five and three-quarter lengths ahead of Maxwell’s second stringer Meadowview Tiffy and 22 lengths up on Jmagoodlookinglady.
Although she has made fewer trips than her stablemate to the winner’s circle this season, four in 10 starts, Oaklea Omega has out earned Oaklea Odessa. Another daughter of Balanced Image, Oaklea Omega has banked $195,305 for Bax’s Parkhill Stud Farm, Brilo Farms of Sharon, Glenn Van Camp and Venture K Stable of Little Britain.
Like Pure Ivory, the Oaklea fillies have their sights set on the July 21 Canadian Breeders Championship Eliminations at Mohawk in July 21.
The three-year-old trotting fillies do not make their next Trillium Series appearance until Oct. 21, but the Ontario Sires Stakes program is back at Georgian Downs next Tuesday, July 18 with the third Grassroots event for the exciting two-year-old pacing colts.
