CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Constance Hall became the fifth two-year-old trotting filly to claim a Gold Final title with an impressive 1:58.3 triumph at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday evening.

The Striking Sahbra daughter and driver Steve Condren went straight to the front from Post 6 and cruised through fractions of :28.4, :59 and 1:29 before cranking up the tempo through the last quarter to hit the wire four lengths ahead of the competition in 1:58.3.

Constance Hall faced a brief moment of pressure heading by the three-quarters when Lakeside Bride and Jtlady Strong were stacked up three and four wide to clear a stalling Banquet Hall, but fan favourite Jtlady Strong went offstride turning for home and Lakeside Bride’s challenge failed to materialise, leaving the pacesetter all alone in the stretch.

Tymal Timeout found racing room once the traffic jam to her right cleared and sprinted home to claim the runner-up’s share of the $130,000 purse and Summer Drinks dogged Constance Hall’s heels through the mile to finish third.

The win was Constance Hall’s third in a consistent season that has seen her finish out of the top three just twice in 10 starts. The Bob McIntosh trainee captured her first Gold Series victory in last week’s elimination round and was second in both her elimination and the final of the August Gold event at Mohawk.

LaSalle resident McIntosh trains Constance Hall for breeder Walnut Hall Limited of Lexington, KY, who opted to buy the regally bred filly back from their 2005 yearling sale for $375,000. The filly’s mother, Canland Hall ($339,143), is a full sister to $2 million winner Cameron Hall. From four foals of racing age Canland Hall has already produced three $100,000-plus winners, including $1.5 million winner Cantab Hall.

Monday’s victory lowered Constance Hall’s personal best by a full second and boosted her into third spot in the division point standings. The top 10 point earners will now focus their attention on the Oct. 14 Super Final at Woodbine Racetrack.

Mohawk hosts two more Gold Series season finales this Friday, Oct. 6 as the three-year-old pacing colts and trotting colts engage in one last battle for a berth in their respective $300,000 Super Finals.
