CAMPBELLVILLE, OCT. 27, 2001 — The final pair of Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series Eliminations for three-year-old pacing fillies provided two surprise winners for OSS race fans at Mohawk Racetrack on Saturday night.

Always exciting this season, the sophomore pacing fillies did not disappoint at the Campbellville oval as a total of sixteen starters vied for over $100,000 in provincial purse money.

In the first $54,237 Gold Elimination longshot Cueless earned her second Ontario Sires Stakes trophy as she battled her way to the winner’s circle in 1:54.

Leaving the wings from Post 5 the Kevin McMaster trainee was buried at the back of the eight-horse field through the early going. Still trailing the pack at the final quarter pole, Cueless and driver Rick Zeron opened the throttle to move up to fifth at the top of the stretch and then blew by the competition to take top honours by a neck.

Owned by Clarence Varcoe of Alliston, the Run The Table daughter returned $9.90 for her unexpected victory, $4.50 to place and $3.20 to show.

After briefly occupying first at the field made the turn for home, Sha Mor Lin was beaten back into second-place while last year’s two-year-old Pacing Filly of the Year, Cupcakesnwhipcream, finished third.

In Race 8 Silver Seven also posted a 1:54 victory and banked an additional $27,118 for her effort.

Coming off the starting gate from Post 8, the Albert Albert daughter and Randy Waples steadily clawed their way through the field from eighth at the quarter pole to first by the top of the stretch, besting another McMaster trainee, Twin B Rosebud, and Cassidy Seelster.

Owned by Longacres Ranch Ltd., Murray Cox and Sharon Roden Cox of Rockwood, Silver Seven paid out $9.00, $4.70 and $3.10 for her second Sires Stake win.

The top five finishers from Saturday’s Elimination races will return to Mohawk Racetrack next Saturday, Nov. 3 for the last $100,000 Gold Series Final showdown of their careers. The superb pacing fillies will share the limelight next with the tough three-year-old trotting colts who will be in town for their own $100,000 Gold Final race.
