CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Nine days after becoming the first Canadian bred to win the historic Little Brown Jug, Mr Feelgood returns to Ontario Sires Stakes action in the second of two $56,552 Gold Eliminations at Mohawk Racetrack on Saturday evening.

“He came out of it well and he’s in to go Saturday,” says Milton resident Doug Hyatt, who shares ownership on Mr Feelgood with Canamerica Capital Corp. partner Albert Imbrogno of Etobicoke, Diversity Stable of North Bergen, NJ and Lindy Farms of Conn. of Enfield, CT. “And he’s got the outside post again, six of six.”

Driver Mark MacDonald will send the Grinfromeartoear son after his second Gold Elimination trophy from Post 6 in the tenth race on Saturday, territory far more familiar than the Delaware, Ohio oval where they clocked a pair of world records on Sept. 21.

“About a month ago at Mohawk one morning during qualifiers, Myron Bell (of Diversity Stable) said, “We’re going to the Jug.'” recalls Hyatt. “And we kind of looked at him and said, Why?’

“He said, You never know, we might get lucky,'” adds the longtime owner. “And history says we went to the Jug and we won it.”

Hyatt says Bell’s decision to take Mr Feelgood to the prestigious Little Brown Jug may have been sparked by the colt’s Gold Elimination and Final victories over Windsor Raceway’s five-eighths mile oval in August.

“He raced in Windsor and raced very well on the five-eighths mile,” explains Hyatt. “That’s probably what got Myron (Bell) thinking this horse can probably pace around a half-mile track. If it wasn’t for Myron, we would not have gone to the Little Brown Jug.”

While Mr Feelgood basks in his Little Brown Jug glory, reigning Gold Final champion Doonbeg will attempt to bounce back from a disappointing ninth-place finish in the historic event. The Camluck colt and driver Jody Jamieson will line up from Post 3 in Race 10 and Hyatt says he still considers Doonbeg the one to beat.

“On a seven-eighths mile track I think Doonbeg is still the best one out there,” notes the owner. “But on any given day, any one of them could be the winner.”

While trainers Jimmy Takter and James Dean prepare their three-year-old pacing colts for Saturday’s Gold Elimination, trainer Jack Darling is readying two-year-old pacing colt Twin B Survivor for the last Gold Final of the season.

The Apaches Fame delivered an impressive 1:52.3 victory in last week’s elimination and will start from Post 8 in Saturday’s $130,000 contest.

“His last start was the best one I’ve seen yet from him,” says Darling, who shares ownership on Twin B Survivor with Daniel Smith of London.

The elimination win was Twin B Survivor’s third, and Darling would love to see the pacer add a Gold Final trophy to his collection on Saturday.

“He’s a big, beautiful horse,” says the Cambridge resident. “He’s pretty tough, and he’s got high speed. Once you start him up he really wants to roll.”

Among the colts Darling hopes driver Paul MacDonell can roll by on Saturday are the other elimination winners, Sergei Seelster and Sipwiththepres, who will start from Posts 2 and 7 in the fifth race.

Post time at Mohawk Racetrack on Saturday is 7:20 pm and the two-year-old pacing colts will wrap up their regular season in Race 5, while the three-year-old pacing colts battle in Races 2 and 10. The top five finishers from each sophomore colt Gold Elimination will return to Mohawk on Oct. 6 for their last Gold Final.
