WINDSOR, ON — Freshman trotting fillies Angostura and Random Destiny delivered dominant performances in Gold Elimination action at Windsor Raceway on Tuesday evening.

Angostura kicked off the evening with an effortless gate to wire performance from the outside Post 7. With regular reinsman Trevor Ritchie in the race bike, the Angus Hall miss rolled through fractions of :28.2, :59.1 and 1:30 on her way to a 2:00, two length, victory over Rebelious Royalty and Warrawee Lassie. Fourth-place finisher Sooner Than Later rounded out the qualifiers from the first elimination for next week’s $130,000 Gold Final.

Dan Creighton trains Angostura for his partners in the Danterra Racing Stable of Strathroy. A $30,000 acquisition from last fall’s Forest City Yearling Sale, Angostura has been outstanding in her seven freshman starts. Making her debut in the Grassroots program at Hiawatha Horse Park on Aug. 13, the filly romped to a nine length victory in 1:59.1. She followed that up with a Gold Elimination win at Mohawk Racetrack on Aug. 24, and one week later was second in the Gold Final from the outside Post 10.

A victor in her Champlain Stakes division at Mohawk on Sept. 7 in a personal best 1:56.1, Angostura then captured her Sept. 14 Peaceful Way elimination by a head, but was placed back to last when reinsman Ritchie was ruled to have contravened the province’s new urging rule. The filly returned to Mohawk for the Peaceful Way Consolation, and cruised home a six length victor in 1:57. Angostura will be handicapped in her quest for a Gold Final trophy next week by the outside Post 9.

In the second elimination, trainer-driver Riina Rekila gave Random Destiny a textbook pocket steer behind fan favourite Wilsonator, and then stepped around the leader through the final turn and pulled away to a two length triumph. Random Destiny halted the Windsor Raceway teletimer at 1:58.1, almost five full seconds faster than her former personal best.

Isthatallyagot and Windcross closed hard to earn the second and third-place share of the $40,000 elimination purse, with Wilsonator settling for fourth. Fifth-place finisher Magic Treasure won the draw for the last spot in next Tuesday’s $130,000 Gold Final.

Rekila conditions Random Destiny for Esa Lahtinen of Campbellville, and has harnessed the Ken Warkentin daughter on eight occasions. A winner in her Gold Series debut at Grand River Raceway on July 13, Random Destiny finished second by a head to Sooner Than Later in the July 20 final. Rekila opted to skip the second Gold Series event, and sent the filly to Hiawatha Horse Park for the Aug. 13 Grassroots contest, and Random Destiny picked up her second victory with a 2:03 effort.

Back in Gold Series action at Mohawk Racetrack on Aug. 24, Random Destiny finished second to Poof Shes Gone in the elimination and then logged a fourth in the Aug. 31 final. The filly came into Friday’s Gold Elimination off a disappointing effort in the Champlain Stakes that saw her make an early break and finish out of the money in sixth.

A $22,000 purchase from the 2008 Forest City Yearling Sale, Random Destiny will be hunting for her first Gold Final trophy from Post 4 in next week’s $130,000 showdown. The complete line up for the Gold Final is as follows:
