Earlier this week driver James MacDonald notched his 1,000th career victory and he hasn’t taken long to add to that total including two wins in the six $18,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots divisions for three-year-old trotting colts tonight at Mohawk.

His first win was courtesy of Razor Ramone who overcame post ten to go wire to wire with fractions of :28.2, :58, 1:27.3 and was home first in 1:57 over Vimy Ridge Vulcan and Windsun Cobra.

It was the first lifetime win for Razor Ramone, a son of Kadabra owned by trainer Mark Etsell of Barrie, Robert Newton of Walkerton and Chaun Tan of Cambridge, Ontario who also bred the colt.

It was an exciting contest for MacDonald in the final division where he had Taurus Seelster the early leader at the opening quarter in :28. They were passed Impressive Chief well before the half in :58 and that striking chestnut colt remained on top at the three-quarters in 1:27.

However, MacDonald had Taurus Seelster out and driving down the stretch, but Impressive Chief gave him a battle and the two fought right down to the wire with Taurus Seelster prevailing by a narrow margin in 1:57.3. Passed Dat Point was third.

It was the third win in seven starts this year for the gelding by Federal Flex trained and co-owned by Clint Guitard of Waterdown, Ontario along with Denmar Sons Stable, Mississauga and Dalmet Farms and Peter Miskolczi of Brampton.

The fastest division of the evening went to Aventure who dictated the tempo for Phil Hudon to win in 1:55.3 off fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:26.1. Red Solo Cup was second followed by Stonebridge Rich.

The other divisions went to Jack Litten (Muscle Mass) in 1:56.2; Tsunami Seelster (Deweycheatumnhowe) in 1:56.1 and Ramas Last Son (Majestic Son) in 1:56.3.

This group will meet again for Grassroots action on July 5 at Hanover Raceway. To see the complete results from tonight’s races, please use the link Mohawk Results – June 26.
