CLINTON, ON — I’m Classy and Heaven And Hall continued their march through the three-year-old trotting colt division on Sunday afternoon at Clinton Raceway, extending their flawless records in Grassroots action to five wins in five starts.

I’m Classy kicked off the afternoon with a track record 1:59.2 score in the first of seven $15,000 Grassroots divisions. Leading from gate to wire, the Eager Seelster son dug in through the stretch to hold off The Orient Express by three-quarters of a length. Third-place finisher King Covenant hit the wire seven lengths behind the leaders.

The 1:59.2 mile shaved two-fifths of a second off the former three-year-old trotting colt speed tab, established by Ata Boy Eric in 2003.

Wayne Langille trains I’m Classy for breeder Lorena Chapple of Harley. Through 16 starts this season the gelding has put together a record of seven wins and four thirds for earnings of $67,201.

Ten races later Heaven And Hall used the same front end tactics to land in the Clinton winner’s circle, reeling off a two and a half length triumph over Misterizi and Zorgwijk Graduate. The 2:00.2 victory was Heaven And Hall’s second straight and his eighth on the season.

Susanne Kerwood trains the talented Angus Hall gelding for Hyatt Holdings Inc. and Canamerica Capital Corp. of Milton.

Starsel matched I’m Classy’s 1:59.2 record in the fourth race, rocking to a seven and a half length win over Lance Hall and Incredible Anthony. Wayne Henry trains and drives Starsel for his partners in the Henry Stable of Arthur and Alan Bodin of Rockwood. The win marked the Angus Hall son’s first trip to the winner’s circle since Aug. 3 and his third through 13 starts this season.

Henry also picked up a Grassroots trophy in third race, piloting Chosen Voyageur to a 1:59.3 triumph over Hetties Hope and Lord Valentine. The Balanced Image gelding has split his time between the Grassroots and Gold Series programs this season, putting together a record of four wins, three thirds and two seconds in 14 starts for earnings of $49,321.

The Henry Stable and Slabtown Farm of Croton share ownership on Chosen Voyageur, who currently ranks sixteenth in the Gold Series standings and eighth in the Grassroots point race.

The other Grassroots divisions went to Broadway Seelster in 2:00.2, Armbro Decimal in 2:03.1 and Sno N Again in 2:02.

Sunday’s contest wrapped up Clinton Raceway’s 2006 Ontario Sires Stakes season, which saw track records fall in three of the four Grassroots divisions hosted by the popular half-mile oval. The provincial program will return to Clinton next spring with another group of potential stars eager to carve their names into the track’s history books.
