LONDON, ON — Two new owners earned a quick return on their investment when they acquired a pair of three-year-old trotting fillies entered to compete in Saturday evening’s Trillium Series event at Western Fair Raceway.

Tymal Farms of Oldcastle offered up a sale topping $80,000 for J M Aggie at the Fall Extravaganza Sale, held at the Western Fair Agriplex on Nov. 4, and a few hours later they recouped $11,575 when the Angus Hall filly powered to a 1:59.4 win in the second Trillium Series division at the London racetrack.

Starting from Post 4 trainer Carl Jamieson propelled the filly to the front and she laid down fractions of :29.2, 1:00.2 and 1:29.2 before digging in down the stretch to earn the half length victory in 1:59.1. Just Dandy closed hard to finish second, while third-place finisher Ms Firestorm was 15 lengths behind the leaders.

The win was only J M Aggie’s second this season through 20 starts, but the Gold Series regular boasts five runner-up performances, five thirds and earnings of $183,100.

Frank Cirillo of Mississauga also made a quick deposit on the plus side of Paris Oaks’ ledger when the filly finished second in her Trillium division. Cirillo acquired the Mr Lavec daughter from the sale for $30,000 and took home a cheque for $5,890, thanks to a gutsy effort that saw the filly recover from early interference that knocked her briefly off stride.

Apeachtoremember claimed the winner’s share of the provincial purse, carving fractions of :28.4, 1:00 and 1:29.4 before accelerating down the stretch to the two and one-quarter length victory in 2:00.1. Paradox Image, who also suffered interference in the early going when Grassroots Champion Featured Image made a break, finished third for trainer Bud Sinclair of Stratford, Murray Neilson of London and Cameron Chisholm of Windsor.

Trevor Henry piloted Apeachtoremember to her fourth straight victory for owner, trainer and breeder James Ruhl of Tara. The Angus Hall miss has enjoyed a great deal of success at Western Fair in recent weeks, capturing two legs and the Final of the Middlesex Trotting Series before earning Saturday’s Trillium trophy.

The remaining Trillium division went to Gold Series regular Jtlady Strong, who delivered the only come from behind performance of the evening to post a 2:00.2 victory. U Can Cruise finished three and one-quarter lengths back in second and Maple Missy was one more length back in third.

A Gold Elimination winner at Windsor Raceway on Oct. 21, Jtlady Strong boasts a record of five wins, four seconds and three thirds in 23 starts this season and bumped her earnings to $109,797 with Saturday’s win. Campbellville resident Norm Jones trains the Angus Hall daughter for his partners Elgin Strong of Oakville and John Toma of Mississauga, and also engineered Saturday’s triumph.

Saturday’s contest wrapped up both the three-year-old trotting fillies’ Trillium season and Western Fair Raceway’s Ontario Sires Stakes schedule. The provincial program will return to the London oval in 2008 with a fresh group of trotters and pacers eager to prove their mettle on the OSS stage.
