INNISFIL, ON — Chuckalo Caden picked up his second Grassroots victory of the season on Tuesday evening at Georgian Downs and leapt up the division standings into a two-way tie for the top spot.

Starting from Post 6 in the fifth $24,000 Grassroots division, Chuckalo Caden got away third, behind pacesetter Tymal Lennon and Revonah Hanover. Heading for the halfway marker Clare “Chuck” Thompson tipped Chuckalo Caden to the outside and the Mr Lavec colt sat there through the remainder of the mile, before powering down the stretch to a half length victory in 2:03.3.

Mr Joe Sixpack followed Chuckalo Caden up the outside into second, while Revonah Hanover turned his pocket trip into a third-place pay day. Fan favourite Tymal Lennon faded in the stretch to finish fourth.

Sunderland, ON resident Thompson bred, owns, trains and drives Chuckalo Caden, who is named after one of his grandsons. Through five Grassroots starts the colt has accumulated two wins and one second for earnings of $30,000 and a point tally of 125. At the conclusion of the six event Grassroots regular season, the top 16 point earners advance to a pair of $30,000 Semifinals, with the top four from each Semifinal getting a crack at the $100,000 Grassroots Championship at Western Fair Raceway on Oct. 23.

Big Strike dropped down to the Grassroots level at Georgian Downs on Tuesday, and delivered a dominant performance in the third division. In rein to owner Bradley Kramer the Striking Sahbra son took control of the race from Post 1 and rolled through fractions of :29.4, 1:01.1 and 1:30.4 before pulling away from the field to a six length victory in 2:02.1.

Edit picked up his first lifetime victory with a 2:02.2 score in the second Grassroots division. Veteran reinsman Mike Saftic tipped the gelding out from fourth heading toward the three-quarter pole and Edit sprinted around the final turn to a seven length victory over pacesetter Winbak Hall. Reelie picked up the third-place cheque, crossing the wire 19 and one-half lengths behind the winner.

Kevin O’Reilly conditions Edit for Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, ON, David McDuffee of Delray Beach, FL and Herb Liverman of Miami Beach, FL. The partners acquired the son of Kadabra and Vintage Chip for $25,000 at last year’s Lexington Sale and Tuesday’s victory tipped the youngster onto the profit side of the ledger. Through six starts Edit now has one win, one second, one third and $25,500 in earnings.
