WINDSOR, ON — Next week’s two-year-old trotting filly Gold Final will feature a host of new faces as upsets were the name of the game in elimination action at Windsor Raceway on Wednesday evening.
In the first of two $49,145 splits Meadowviewprincess got a textbook steer from Patrick Lachance to score her first lifetime victory. Sent off from Post 1 as the second longest shot on the board, Meadowviewprincess settled in behind pacesetter Lookit through fractions of :29, :59.2 and 1:29.3 then shifted into a new found gear through the stretch to score the 2:00.1 victory over Honour Way and favourite Elena.
Charles Reid’s Meadowview Farms Inc. of Orono bred and owns Meadowviewprincess and Brad Shakes trains the Angus Hall daughter, whose best finish heading into Wednesday night’s battle was a second in the Aug. 11 Trillium Series at Windsor. The filly is a half-sister to former Ontario Sires Stakes star Meadowview Sunny, who has banked $585,461 in his career.
Meadowviewprincess more than tripled her lifetime earnings with the victory, pushing them to $36,342.
The filly’s success was also profitable for her fans, who earned $99.20 on a win wager, $33.90 on a place ticket and $8.60 for a show play. Honour Way’s runner-up effort returned $4.90 to place and $2.90 to show and Elena returned $3.40. The exactor was worth $388.10 and the 1 – 2 – 5 triactor cashed in at $2,310.80.
The pay outs in the first division paled in comparison to the second elimination, which saw a trio of longshots claim the top three spots.
Taking his cue from Lachance, Bradley Kramer powered out of Post 5 with B Cor Renee and positioned himself behind heavy favourite What Idid For Love, sitting on her heels as that filly carved out fractions of :29.1, 1:01 and 1:30.4. When What Idid For Love made a break as the fillies turned for home Kramer and B Cor Renee found themselves on the front and were able to fend off Windsun Firstafair and Merry Rules down the stretch to record the 2:02 victory by a head.
B Cor Renee’s fans earned $80.20, $25.40 and $8.780 for their win, place and show wagers, Windsun Firstafair returned $19.10 to place and $10.80 to show and Merry Rules paid $23.10 to show. The exactor was worth $1,084.90 and fans choosing the numbers 5, 7, and 10 for their triactor play carted home a hefty $14,738 from the mutuel windows.
The win was B Cor Renee’s first of the season and bumped her earnings to $49,928. The CR Renegade daughter, owned by trainer William Core of Dresden, finished second in her elimination and third in the Grand River Raceway Gold Final on Aug. 2.
In addition to the top three fillies from each elimination, fourth-place finishers Lookit and Philhallmonic and one of fifth-place finishers World Class Image or Hologram Hanover, will return to Windsor Raceway next Wednesday, Sept. 1 for the third $130,000 Gold Final on their freshman schedule.
