DUNDAS, ON — Feeling Frazzled scored his second straight victory at Flamboro Downs on Friday afternoon to claim victory in the last $130,000 Gold Final of the two-year-old trotting colt season.
Leaving from Post 1, Feeling Frazzled dropped into third on the rail behind pacesetter Stonebridge Diablo and favourite Classic Lavec. As the leader rolled through fractions of :29.1, 1:01.1 and 1:31, trainer-driver Raymond Kinney bided his time, waiting for the stretch to unleash Feeling Frazzled.
Heading for the wire Stonebridge Diable and Feeling Frazzled battled tooth and nail, but it was Feeling Frazzled who prevailed by a quarter length to score the 2:00.3 victory. Classic Lavec wrapped up the third-place finisher’s share, crossing the finish line two lengths behind the winner.
The victory was a personal best for Feeling Frazzled, who improved his record to three wins and two seconds in eight starts. The Mr Lavec son, owned by William Roberts of Bad Axe, MI, has earned $223,745 largely due to his second-place finish in the $464,900 Campbellville Stakes Final at Mohawk Racetrack on Sept. 20.
Flamboro Downs fans sent elimination winner Feeling Frazzled off as their third choice and the colt returned $7.90 on a win ticket, $3.90 for a place wager and $2.40 on a show play. Fourth choice Stonebridge Diablo, owned by trainer Ron Waples, Jr. and Dr. Sheila Atmore of Fergus, driver Randy Waples of Milton and Alan Kirschenbaum of Burbank, CA, returned $5.70 to place and $3.30 to show. Classic Lavec’s third-place effort was worth $2.10. The exactor returned $77.90 and the triactor paid $186.10.
The top 10 point earners from the five regular season Gold events will now set their sights on the $300,000 Super Final at Woodbine Racetrack on Nov. 13. Mill Work, who finished fourth in Friday’s contest for trainer-driver Rick Zeron of Oakville, leads the colts into the rich season finale with a total of 245 points earned through two Gold Elimination and two Gold Final wins.
Flamboro Downs wraps up another outstanding Ontario Sires Stakes season on Sunday with two Trillium Series divisions for the three-year-old pacing fillies, who completed their regular season Gold events in early October and their Grassroots events on Oct. 30.
