GLOUCESTER, ON — Rideau Carleton Raceway fans placed their faith in elimination winner Porsche Hall on Thursday evening and the three-year-old trotting filly delivered, posting a two and a half length triumph to claim her second straight Gold Final title.
Leaving from Post 3, trainer-driver Terry Kerr wasted no time putting the fleet footed Porsche Hall on the front end. Trotting by the opening quarter in :28.4, Porsche Hall was one and a half lengths ahead of her peers, a margin which doubled by the :59.3 half as the fillies tucked in behind her fell victim to breaks.
With the fans’ second choice Pure Ivory off stride as a result of interference from longshot Spare Time Rozie, Kerr set Porsche Hall on cruise control, sailing by the 1:29 three-quarters and on to the 1:57.3 victory. Oaklea Odessa picked up the runner-up’s share of the $130,000 Gold Final purse and Birminghim was two more lengths back in third.
The win marked Porsche Hall’s third straight appearance in the winner’s circle and her fourth in her last five starts.
Sarnia resident Kerr trains the talented daughter of Angus Hall and Bankers Jackpot for breeders Bet Max Stables Inc., of Casco, MI and Benenati Inc. of Clinton Township, MI. Through 13 starts the filly boasts a record of four wins, two seconds and one third for earnings of $247,957.
In return for their support, Porsche Hall returned $4.00, $3.40 and $2.10 to Rideau Carleton fans holding win, place and show tickets with her name on them. Third choice Oaklea Odessa’s runner-up effort paid $4.20 on each place voucher and $2.90 on a show ticket and longshot Birminghim returned $8.00 to show.
Selecting the Porsche Hall – Oaklea Odessa exactor netted fans $19.30 and accurately predicting the top three finishers earned you $196.50.
Porsche Hall will attempt to continue her Gold Series hot streak on Sept. 14 at Mohawk Racetrack in the last event of the regular season. Thursday’s triumph boosted the consistent filly to the top of the division standings with a total of 225 points, so she has already earned her invitation to the $300,000 Super Final at Mohawk on Oct. 14.
Ontario Sires Stakes excitement returns to Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday, Sept. 28 with Gold Eliminations for the outstanding two-year-old pacing fillies.
