CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Equity cruised to his eighth straight victory at Mohawk Racetrack on Saturday evening, rolling around a sloppy oval rated one second slower than normal to a 1:55.2 Gold Final triumph.
With Jack Moiseyev back in the race bike, Equity took control of the race heading for the halfway marker and never looked back, reaching the wire two lengths ahead of P L Cooper and Structure Fire.
The son of Kadabra and former Ontario Sires Stakes star Earl Of My Dreams has not been beaten since the season opening Gold Final on May 25 where he finished sixth. That sixth-place finish and a second in the Gold Elimination one week earlier are the only times Equity has failed to beat a path to the winner’s circle through 12 lifetime starts.
Chris Christoforou of Campbellville bred, owns and trains the talented youngster in partnership with Banjo Farms of Toronto. Saturday’s victory adds a second Gold Final trophy to their mantel, which is also laden with two Gold Elimination trophies and the hardware from the elimination and final of the Canadian Breeders Championship.
In addition to Equity’s impressive performance, Mohawk Racetrack fans were treated to Gold Final action by the three-year-old pacing fillies.
Like Equity, Shacked Up took command of the race before the halfway marker and driver Luc Ouellette never saw a challenger as the Western Terror daughter cruised home to a 1:52.3 victory.
Grinfromeartoear daughters Coming Late and Cheap Motel finished more than three lengths back in second and third.
Tracy Brainard trains Shacked Up for owner-breeder Bulletproof Enterprises Inc. of Boca Raton, FL. Through 10 sophomore starts the filly has not missed a cheque, posting four wins, two seconds, three thirds and one fourth for earnings of $319,962, an impressive addition to the $132,800 she earned as a two-year-old.
Shacked Up will begin defense of her Gold Final title on Sept. 15 when the three-year-old pacing fillies make the fourth stop on their provincial tour at Kawartha Downs. Three-year-old trotting gelding Equity will have an opportunity to extend his win streak on Sept. 17 at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Mohawk Racetrack fans can catch the three-year-old pacing colts in Gold Final action on Sunday night, along with a pair of Gold Eliminations for the two-year-old pacing fillies. On Monday the two-year-old trotting fillies take the stage at the Campbellville oval, competing in their second $130,000 Gold Final.
