DUNDAS, ON — FBs Terror cruised around the Flamboro Downs half-mile on Thursday afternoon to a 1:55 score in the first of two $40,000 Gold Eliminations for the two-year-old pacing fillies.
With Oakville resident Scott Zeron in the race bike, FBs Terror stepped lively away from Post 1 and sailed along on the front end through fractions of :27.1, :56.2 and 1:25.3. Precious Cammill mounted a challenge from the outside, but down the stretch FBs Terror pulled away from the field to a three and one-half length victory.
Western Silk closed hard to edge Precious Cammill out for second, with The Big Scoop rounding out the Gold Finalists from the first elimination.
Mario Macri trains FBs Terror for Michael Guerriero and FB Racing of Moffat and has sent the talented young pacer into battle nine times this season. Racing against top fillies from across North America, FBs Terror has amassed a record of three wins and three thirds for earnings of $133,686.
The full-sister to three-year-old pacing colt stand out Fast Pay was a $12,000 bargain at last fall’s Forest City Yearling Sale. The daughter of Western Terror and Speedy Shopper is one of five siblings with over $100,000 in earnings.
The second Gold Elimination went to another filly with an impeccable pedigree purchased for a song at last fall’s Forest City Yearling Sale. The half-sister to four $100,000-plus earners, Bay Girl sold for just $7,000 last October. Michael, Sam and Pat Sergi of Canton, NY share ownership on the daughter of Royal Mattjesty and $177,059 winner Whitley Bay, who now has a record of three wins, two seconds and one third in six starts.
Starting from Post 6 in a field of six fillies, driver Mario Baillargeon sent Bay Girl straight to the front. Carving fractions of :27.4, :56.4 and 1:26.2, the pair accelerated down the stretch to a one and one-quarter length win over Exotic Pleasure and Kims Quest, who were one and one-quarter lengths behind the leader. St Lads Trixie completed the field of eight who will compete in next week’s $130,000 Gold Final.
Milton resident Ben Wallace trains Bay Girl, who will defend the Gold Final title she earned on Aug. 16 from Post 5 next Thursday. The remainder of the field will line up behind the Flamboro Downs starting gate as follows:
Post 1 The Big Scoop
Post 2 St Lads Trixie
