CAMPBELLVILLE, ON — Rockwood resident Barry Treen arrives at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday, July 22 with a pair of two-year-old pacing fillies that have been knocking at the door in the Grassroots Series.
In her first two Grassroots starts Wishful Luck delivered a runner-up result. At Georgian Downs on July 2 the Eagle Luck daughter finished in a dead heat for second with Jakardez, just three-quarters of a length behind winner Catwoman, and back at Georgian Downs on July 9 the filly finished half a length behind Shes A Hotmama.
Treen conditions Wishful Luck for breeder Leonard Gamble of Etobicoke and will send the youngster after another impressive result from Post 4 in the fourth $12,857 Grassroots division. She faces a rematch against Catwoman, who will start from Post 6.
Gamble also owns St Lads Gabby Gal, who will start from Post 1 in the ninth race. The daughter of Camluck and Guelph Gal, who has produced five winners of $100,000-plus, finished fourth in her Grassroots debut and third in the July 9 event.
Division leader Ramblin Rose will be absent from Monday’s event so the fillies that are hot on her heels will be looking to make up some ground. Justabit Mean may have a tough time closing the 25 point gap from Post 10 in the third race, but Momara will be looking to take advantage of Post 4 in the second race, as will Catwoman and Shes A Hotmama, who gets Post 6 in the first division.
The two-year-old pacing fillies kick off Mohawk Racetrack’s Monday evening program at 7:25 pm and will also compete in Races 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11.
