HANOVER, ON — Hanover Raceway will be flooded with two-year-old pacing colts on Saturday, July 20 as the popular Grey County oval hosts 10 Grassroots divisions.
Seawind Hercules makes just his second Grassroots start on Saturday, but comes into the race off an impressive runner-up finish in the July 6 event at Georgian Downs. Paisley resident Vicki Gregg conditions the son of Mister Big and taught the gelding his early lessons over the Hanover Raceway oval. Seawind Hercules finished second in a June 15 qualifier at his local oval and third in a maiden event on June 22.
The gelding, a half-brother to $781,873 winner Astronomical, was an $8,000 acquisition from the Harrisburg Yearling Sale. Gregg shares ownership of Seawind Hercules with David Carson of Listowel and Anthony Haughan will steer the novice pacer from Post 5 in the eleventh race.
Local colt May To For makes his Grassroots debut in the eleventh race, starting from Post 3 for trainer-driver Terry Fritz of Walkerton and owner-breeder Douglas Beckett of Tara. The Royal Mattjesty son prepped for the event with a June 6 qualifier, finishing second, and a June 13 overnight event at Hanover, where he logged a sixth-place result from the outside Post 7.
In the seventh race, three of the division point leaders will battle for top spot in the point standings. Cheeky Fool and driver Scott Coulter get Post 2, Trevor Henry steers Major Starlight from Post 5, and Yves Filion will guide Victor Bayama from the trailing Post 8.
Post time for Hanover Raceway’s Saturday evening program is 7:30 pm and the two-year-old pacing colts will impress local fans in Races 3 through 12.
